The Federal Skilled Trades program is for skilled trades people looking to immigrate to Canada and start a new life. If you believe that you can be a valuable asset to the Canadian economy, then we encourage you to apply.
However, there are certain perquisites. You will need to be able to prove that you:
- Have at least two years’ work experience in a skilled trade, over the past 5 years
- Meet certain minimum language requirements
The Federal Skilled Trades program leverages a point system to assess candidates. However, this is not to be confused with the comprehensive ranking system used to rank candidates for the Express Entry system.
Should you wish to create a candidate profile and unlock your score using the comprehensive ranking system, you will first need to quality for the Federal Skilled Trades program. The other two options you could qualify for, before being able to apply, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class program.
The points you earn will be the benchmark for your eligibility to participate in Express Entry. All candidates applying for the Federal Skilled Trades Program must use the Express Entry Immigration application system to do so.
